A day in the city of Modena is a day well spent, between relaxation, culture and flavours, entertainment and sport. To visit there are treasures of UNESCO, but not only, also other places such as the Enzo Ferrari House Museum, Luciano Pavarotti House Museum, the Figurine Museum, the Palazzo dei Musei, the Estense Gallery. Not to forget the gastronomic tradition of the Geminiana city, there are several vinegar factories that produce the famous and unique balsamic vinegar of Modena according to ancient tradition.
The Cathedral of Modena is among the major monuments of Romanesque architecture in Europe, recognized in 1997 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Dedicated to S. Maria Assunta, it houses the remains of S. Geminiano, Bishop and Patron of Modena who died in 397 AD. The Cathedral is a synthesis between ancient culture and the new Lombard art, a fundamental model for the Romanesque civilization.
Piazza Grande is the main square of Modena, located in the heart of the city. The square is located on the south side of the Cathedral, which with the Ghirlandina Bell Tower forms a monumental complex declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
It is undoubtedly the most important museum center in the city: in its halls are preserved works of inestimable value and endless libraries, archives and galleries wind their way. The Palace, with its beautiful forms in the eighteenth century style, was commissioned by Francesco III in 1764. Famous architects worked on the project: Pietro Termanini, Andrea Tarabusi, Francesco Croce and Francesco Vandelli. The original destination of the complex was that of a hotel for the poor. In 1788, however, Ercole III decided to transform it into a hotel of the arts.
